Incentives and Subsidies

Currently, South Africa does not have widespread incentives or government rebates specifically targeted at electric vehicles (EVs). However, there are plans and discussions about introducing such incentives to encourage the adoption of EVs.

President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced that the government is considering tax rebates or subsidies to promote the uptake of new energy vehicles (NEVs), which include EVs. These incentives could potentially include reductions in import duties, value-added tax (VAT) exemptions, or income tax deductions for EV purchases. Additionally, there are proposals for direct financial support or rebates to consumers who purchase EVs, making them more affordable.

While these plans are still in the discussion phase, they signal a positive move towards supporting the growth of the EV market in South Africa.
